Does your camera have a TV setting? if it does that is a good one to start with. It stands for Time Value so you can adjust the shutter speed on your own. My camera on the TV setting also lets you adjust the F stop manually also on that setting. Or if you have a M setting for Manual adjust that is even better because you can adjust everything independently.

Even with the strobes, the shadows are missing some detail.
I have experimented recently with HDR high dynamic range photography.
Basically you take three or more differently exposed pictures and then a computer program makes a summary picture.
Attached picture was taken in high contrast noon sun.

I took some cool pictures of the sunset at the end of a ride that I thought turned out really good.

We actually had three dogs total in the group only one cut up its paws and it was the nubie dog.

Nice views! The wife & I are going to Sedona this coming weekend. Unfortunately it will be sans bike, but I'm not complaining - Sedona is amazing from any vantage point!

Here are some of the pictures I took up in Montana Dec '09




This picture is a shot in water about 20 feet deep and I took it using a flash close to the surface. You can really see how clear the water is heare.
