ouch. I don't think I even saw a fish in there for that price. Looks I need to get a few more to lower the average price. $4 sounds really low. AZ Gardens, infamous for charging very little for fish, and raping you on shipping has them listed around $5. PI is selling Albino BN Plecos @ 1" for $20, and it seems most of the fish have tripled in price over the past two years I was absent from the hobby. I got my CPD's for $4 each @ AT, and PI said they charge $5-7. It all works out in the end.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
It seems Pets Inc raises their prices almost on a weekly basis. Sometimes I can hardly justify going in there, but most of the employees are friends so I go in. I have never seen BB Puffers for sale there at more that $4 a pop.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
I will go in this week and put my name on "the list". I don't think I have ever been called when an out of stock fish arrives but at leat I tried. I am tempted to cash in some long lost AZGardens credit but not sure if they will honor it, or if I am crazy enough to give them another chance. I'll see if they have any coming in though. Thanks for the heads up. All my PI contacts are gone. Drew was my freshwater man, and Roy was the guy for the plants. I feel like a new customer walking into a place I have shopped at for over 9 years.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
I have a pair of these in my 34 gallon tank with my zebra plecos and the puffers are extremely docile. I think they are some of the coolest fish I've ever owed. They are shy, but very inquisitive. I'm pull RCS out of that tank left and right (when the breding is good) and have never had a problem with them eating RCS, my rummy noses, or the zebras. However they are VICIOUS towards any snail of any size.
I've heard stories about these guys that range from "completely" tame towards other inhabitiants to "ruthless". I think it must vary from fish-to-fish.

And your puffers look amazing Dan.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
I just "rescued" one of these (to the tune of $.99) for my classroom tank. I have a five gallon biocube. I'm currently moving my gigantic trapdoor snail to another tank -- 'cause I want to maintain a population of young snails for treats, and he eats 'em as soon as he sees them.
My guy is super cool, but he's the only tank inhabitant.
The snail is moving to a 5 gallon Eclipse corner tank for now. I'm thinking of adding some shrimp to that too, but the lighting sucks and I've never had any really successful plant growth in that tank (at least, not for long).
My students really get a kick out of the puffer fish, though. They're neat little dudes.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
He came from Pets Inc. He was brought in by another customer and was in a guppy tank. I had been looking for one for my classroom tank, but I hadn't been able to get one before that day. By the time I went in, all the DBs were sold. I asked someone, and shockingly, the random DP was in there. Apparently the guppies were showing signs of ick, so the guy suggested I might want to wait. I decided if I waited, it was going to be another month, so I risked it and got him anyway. No signs of illness. He's hunted the snails down to nearly none. I had to move my big snail to a new tank, and DP won't eat the mysis shrimp, but other than that, all's well.
I'm thinking of trying blood worms, but it's tough to get to the pet store and back to work.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
I feed my DP's Mysis shrimp. They eat them but they like BWs a lot more.

Re: Dwarf Puffer
I'm thinking I might get him eating the blood worms. When he's used to eating what I add to the tank, I'll add the mysis shrimp... maybe feed both at the same time.
