Default What is your favorite tightly schooling small fish?

I am in the market for a very small school fish. I have CPDs that don't really school and would like something of similar or smaller size. The smaller the better. If there is anything like the CPDs that have a very detailed pattern that would be great too.

Celestial Pearl Danios

I really like Boraras brigittae if you are looking for small and striking. You would need a lot of them though (50+) to be very visible in a tank that size.

Dan, 50+ in this tank? Are they that small, or are their colors that subtle? I'll look them up, sounds intriguing.

Dan was just telling the previous poster what CPD was. I have 8 and will get more, I love the little guys. They don't school much at all either.

If you have a larger tank a big school of Rummynose are pretty awesome. Also, +2 on the Microrasboras. I just bought a school of 20 Gold Neon Tetras and they are an instant favorite of mine.

Dan, is the fish you recommend also known as a chili rasbora? Those are what I got when we did a group order with Frank's Aquarium a few years back. I only got a few but they didn't last long. I think the ph of their bag was super duper low. Are they hardy or fragile?

Yes, they like lower pH and that is the same fish.... I got 75 from Invertzfactory.com and they have done pretty well, but I keep in them in RO water...

I've got the tank about 80-90% RO right now and will be co2 this puppy once I get the tank filled. After I get it all settled maybe I'll go for it. Size comparison-wise, closer in size to the puffer or CPD? Also, what do you feel your smallest fish? I have some NLS Grow formula and even that is too big for the Featherfin Rainbows. That stuff is super small too.
